This would have been our tenth season of poetry slams, writing workshops, and poetry shows. Due to the pandemic and our inability to gather in person we’ve decided to forgo our monthly poetry slam to offer a more intimate way to virtually engage with our poetry community. We’ll be experimenting with hosting a series of month long poetry workshops: The Pigeon Coop. This program includes four virtual classes, two private editing sessions with the facilitator, and publication in The Philly Pigeon’s first end-of-season anthology!
We ended our 2019/20 season online. It was beautiful to be joined by people all over the world for what is normally a local event. We loved the challenge of figuring out how to gather our community to appreciate and honor this artform we love. However, the three of us are not excited to spend an entire season on Zoom. It doesn’t nurture us.
We support the efforts to slow the spread of the virus and protect each other by physical distancing and mask wearing. And hope that these efforts lead to a near future in which we can gather in person. Independent venues like our home PhilaMOCA are going to need our support to survive this time. We look forward to the day we can greet you at the door once again.
